While the technological advances
have greatly improved business throughout, they have
nevertheless come at a price. That is, they have required
companies to attract, train, and retain a very specialized
work force. The jack-of-all-trades of yesterday is no
longer a viable solution. Today a technology-driven
business can no longer rely on a single person’s general
knowledge in any given aspect of IT. The current technology
requires a specialized technician to be able to understand
and exploit the features and functionalities of the
equipment.
Additionally, in recent years, in response to the
need to reduce costs and in order to focus their energies
on core products and services. For these two reasons
many companies have been assigning certain secondary
activities and projects to third-party firms or hiring
outsourcing and off-shoring companies. This is true
especially for those tasks that may be too complex
for in-house IT professionals to manage. Outsourcing
companies can provide the manpower, expertise and
cost savings to support their current, complex IT
infrastructure.
